The ASB season of SHORTLAND STREET - THE MUSICAL bursts onto the ASB Waterfront Theatre stage this November! An affectionate parody of the soap genre and a celebration of our beloved Kiwi serial drama, the ASB season of SHORTLAND STREET - THE MUSICAL is erupting with infectious tunes, side-splitting laughs and 90s throwbacks! Relive the cliffhanger storylines injected with gut-busting musical numbers including “Not in Guatemala Now” and “The Five Wives of Doctor Warner”. Shortland Street producer, Simon Bennett, directs a stellar cast including HA Rebekkah Schoonbeek-Berridge (Pleasuredome, Chicago) along with an ensemble of musical pros! The show will also be touring nationally in March and April 2019.

DOUBLE DERELICTS
Te Oro, Glen Innes - 16 & 17 November 2018
Share the joy and tomfoolery of the White Face Crew in a superbly choreographed show, involving couch leaping, shoe stealing, and good old-fashioned clowning around. Two colourful street characters go head to head in a city park. What begins as a hilarious duet turns into a charming tale when a gloomy businessman interrupts their daily routine. Will his dark clouds engulf them or can they turn his frown upside down? This is top notch physical theatre and dance from the award-winning White Face Crew. Choreographed by HA Justin Haiu and directed by Jarod Rawiri, Double Derelicts showcases the unique and spontaneous physical comedy the White Face Crew is famous for. Fun for all ages, and guaranteed to amuse and impress!

BASEMENT ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
BAD MOOD, Basement Theatre - 6 to 10 November 2018?
HA Tallulah Holly-Massey is a dancer with disruption at the heart of what she does. Her choreography and artistic development challenge the idea of what a dance work can be. She has collaborated with Basement Theatre on their Labs, Not Dogs initiative, has presented works in their Winter 2016 Season, and their Fringe Performance Salon in 2017. This year, Tallulah is Basement's Artist-in-Residence, meaning she will have a show featured in each of their three seasons. Tallulah will be presenting Bad Mood in November as the third and final of these three works. BAD MOOD celebrates multifaceted female characters through theatrical and filmic devices. Performed by HA Kelly Nash, HA Zahra Killeen-Chance, HA Nancy Wijohn and HA Live Events Guru Lara Liew.

We love these shots of @boliewking in George&Me... Bo plays George, a curious kiwi kid who has an inquisitive animated side-kick called Me. Together they discover all kinds of cool, weird and gross stuff about the human body. George & Me uses animation to create a fresh fun science-based series that gives kids insights about themselves! STRAIGHT FORWARD - TVNZ
TVNZ has added Straight Forward, an ambitious global co-production, to its 2018 line-up. Partnering with production companies and broadcasters in Denmark and US. Filmed in Queenstown and Copenhagen and created by award-winning writer, John Banas (Resolve, Dear Murderer), the eight-part series follows a Danish woman’s attempts to leave her criminal past behind her by moving to a small New Zealand town. TVNZ will be the first to bring Straight Forward to New Zealand audiences and the worldwide premiere will be on Viaplay’s streaming service in 2018.

Make sure your shot stands out and says ‘meet me, get to know me, audition me’. Getting a performing gig starts by getting in the door of a casting directors office. Regardless of how great your performing skills are, if you don't have a great headshot, the casting director may never know you exist. The Big Screen Symposium, brought to you by Script to Screen and J&A Productions, brings the filmmakers of Aotearoa New Zealand together for debate, discussion, information and inspiration. The event is for all those who bring our stories to the screen: from directors, writers and producers to musicians, actors and technicians to business people, distributors and film students. It presents a big picture of the world of film and television, a great networking opportunity, and a wealth of insights and information on the pertinent issues facing filmmakers today.
DANCE INTENSIVE WITH TARREN JOHNSON
Wellesley Studios Friday 24 August at 6pm
Cultivate your choreographic voice while deepening your technical abilities as a contemporary dancer. This workshop aims to open up ways of thinking about space, composition and technique to increase artistic freedom and expressivity while dancing. The first part of the day will include an in depth warm up, followed by across-the-floor exercises and choreography. Dancers deepen their understanding of fluid weight shifting, awareness of movement initiation and working off of their centre axis. The second part of the day will focus on an array of compositional and improvisational exercises aimed to increase legibility and experimental uses of space and movement. Registrations close Friday August 17th.

SHOW ME SHORTS: NZ INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
In Cinemas 6 to 28 October 2018
Good things come in small packages. The 13th edition of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading international short film festival are about to open. Show Me Shorts 2018 will take place this Spring in more than 25 cinemas nationwide from Kaitaia to Stewart Island. Short films can be any genre. They accept animation, documentary, comedy, horror, drama and everything in between. They do have a preference for cinematic narrative-style films with strong audience appeal, as well as films that are making their premiere in the festival. Respected and experienced judges from the film industry help decide the winners, with creativity, cinematic films and original vision being strong factors they look for.
DUFFY AND THE CLOCKBAY BULLY

The holiday fun continues with an entertaining and fun theatre show presented by Duffy Books in Homes and featuring HA Forrest Denize. Duffy and the Cloakbay Bully counters bullying and promotes friendship through the power of books and reading. There will be fun activities before the shows, including colouring and a book swap so to early to make the most of a Duffy afternoon! Tickets cost $10 and under 5s are free.

FOOTNOTE: BALANCING POINT

Balancing Point is a breathtaking contemporary dance double-bill by Footnote New Zealand Dance. For their major season of 2018, Footnote intersects two hypnotic new dance works by New Zealand and Australian choreographers Zahra Killeen-Chance (of HA), James O’Hara & Eliza Sanders. It features dancers Joshua Faleatua and Adam Naughton who are represented by The Human Agency.
REFLECTIONS IN THE DUST - FILM
A trailer has been released for Luke Sullivan’s Reflections in the Dust which combines elements of both documentary and fiction, blending factual interviews with an ominous post-apocalyptic tale and stars HA Sarah Houbolt in her debut lead role. Sarah, a prominent figure in the Australian arts scene, is blind and suffers from the rare Hallermein-Streiff syndrome. She is an accomplished physical theater and circus performer, ex Paralympian and internationally renowned advocate for disabled inclusion. She has recently been invited to the United Nations to speak about the rights of women with disability.

HA Forrest Denize appeared as Emily in the official launch of Cafe Theatre's monthly live play readings at Tiny Theatre in Westmere. Jennifer Ward-Lealand opened the evening followed by a reading of 'Thanksgiving in the Wilderness' by Kellie Powel. TOI WHAKAARI: NEW ZEALAND DRAMA SCHOOL

Get a taste of life at Toi. For five days classes in all disciplines will be open to prospective students so they can get a first-hand appreciation for the school and the way we teach. Cultural change agent Taurima Vibes has recently launched an exciting programme of community building activities for the next six months, kicking off with the brand-new festival AHUREI MATARIKI TAKATAPUI from July 19-21. Takatapui is a traditional Maori term meaning ‘intimate companion of the same sex.’ It has been reclaimed to embrace all Maori who identify with diverse sexes, genders and sexualities. AHUREI MATARIKI TAKATAPUI is a brand-new initiative, to bridge gaps, both cultural and generational, and promote harmony in the broader community. MC Miss Ribena leads a multi-genre performance explosion featuring the talents of Ahakoa Te Aha Kapa Haka, HA Taiaroa Royal, Jess Holly Bates, Borni Te Rongopai Tukiwaho, Whati Te Wake, Zach Macer, Brady Peeti and Jermaine Dean of FAFSWAG, with more to be announced. It's 1999 and Kiwa struggles with the whole "being Maori" thing. Kiwa's done with being judged - worst of all by his own people. How do black American fullas who live 20,000km away make him feel more at home than ever? 'I Ain't Mad at Cha' is a Hip-Hop Rap Musical, set in 1999 in Gisborne, about a young Maori boys love for rhymes.

Three quirky tales by Margaret Mahy, featuring HA multi-skilled actors Erica Kroger and Calum Hughes, come to life on stage. Norvin loves swimming in the bay but wishes he could swim as fast as he can without other swimmers getting in his way. He finds a novel way to have the water all to himself. But is he alone? Also featuring Mahy’s The Boy with Two Shadows (having your own shadow is one thing, but when you agree to look after a witch’s one then the troubles begin) along with The Boy who was Followed Home (ever been followed home by a hippo, or two? Imagine what Mum says when she finds them in your front garden!)

Inspired by the 1963 Brynderwyn bus crash Te Waka Huia is a fictional tribute to those who died in NZ’s worst road accident, and to those who have lived with the loss ever since. In the present day, Pahi (HA Junior Misimoa) - accompanied by his ghosts - is the sometime resident of a derelict bus in an abandoned paddock on the outskirts of small town Helensville. When two teenagers move in, drawn by their own sense of homelessness, Pahi’s tangled worlds of past and present collide. As his secrets unravel, and the threat of losing the bus becomes clear, the three discover a truth: whatever it looks like, home is worth fighting for.

UNITEC SHAKESPEARE SEASON 2018
Unitec Theatre 8 to 16 June
The Tempest directed by Paul Gittins, featuring HA Anya Wood, and Love's Labour's Lost directed by Rita Stone are performed by acting students in their third and final year of study and design of costume, set and lighting/sound is also done by third year production students. The famous storm that opens Shakespeare’s play The Tempest has been conjured by Prospera* whose enemies are on board the vessel caught in the wind and tumultuous seas. In Love’s Labour’s Lost four men pledge to deny themselves the company of women only to be undone by love’s intoxication.

National Tour starts 10 May 2018
Footnote Dance Company are on a nationwide tour of Search Engine. They start their epic tour by making their way down South and hitting Nelson, Greymouth, Queenstown, Invercargill, Oamaru and Dunedin. Then onwards to the North Island! This intimate triple-bill show, choreographed by Lauren Langlois, Rose Philpott and Tupua Tigafua featuring HA performers Adam Naughton and Joshua Faleatua, incorporates striking projected images that frame and compliment the stunning physicality of the dancers. Within this luminous, metallic world, these three choreographers explore and define their experiences of what it means to seek out and to search within our technologically driven society.

World of Wearable Art is looking for models and performers for the 2018 WOW Awards Show opening in September. Being a part of this incredible show is intoxicating. Joining a cast and crew of around 350 you will make new friends, work with some of New Zealand's most talented creatives and have loads of fun along the way. And you get to show off extraordinary garments created by some of the most creative art and fashion minds from around the world. TVNZ NEW BLOOD WEB SERIES - COMPETITION
Applications close Monday 21 May
After kicking off a nationwide search for a brand new web series in 2017, the TVNZ New Blood Web Series Competition is back for year two – with some exciting changes. Rather than entering a pilot, they are calling for written proposals. Fifteen will be chosen, with one member from each team attending a one-day workshop at TVNZ’s Auckland office in Central Auckland. Their judging panel will select five finalists who will receive $5,000 each to create a pilot. All five pilots will be uploaded for the public to view and then vote for their favourite. The pilot with the most votes will take the top prize of $100,000 to make their web series.

Direct from Paris’ prestigious Théâtre National de Chaillot and Liverpool, following sold out seasons and standing ovations in New Zealand, the Holland Dance Festival and Germany, The New Zealand Dance Company is now touring with one of its most sought after and celebrated programmes— Lumina. Three incomparable pieces of contemporary dance explode off the stage in “ground-breaking” and “hypnotic” (NZ Herald) spectacles resulting in a “tour de force of dance, music and light.” (DANZ)
Artistic Director Shona McCullagh, and HA Director, tasked the three dynamic creative teams with creating a world where light was the connective force of the programme. Featuring some of Holland and New Zealand’s finest choreographers, composers and designers, Lumina is a rich world “presenting a veritable explosion of fantastically illuminated spaces, images and superbly performed contemporary dance.” (NZ Herald)

As part of its vision to provide connection, collaboration and creation within the dance sector, Wellesley Studios is hosting 'Friday Features - Series 2' each Friday evening until the 28th of May. These sessions offer the opportunity for artists to share about themselves and their work or areas of interest. All sessions are free of charge and will culminate with wine and nibbles.
